Prof. dr. ir. A. Nijholt

Prof. Dr. Ir. A. Nijholt (Anton) Anton Nijholt studied mathematics at Delft University of Technology. During the academic year 1971/1972 he was a member of the Board of W.I.S.V. ‘Christiaan Huygens’, in which he fulfilled the role of Education Affairs.

Mr. Nijholt subsequently graduated from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in theoretical computer science. After that he worked at the University of Twente, the Catholic University of Nijmegen and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. During 1995-1996 he was a ‘fellow’ at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS) in Wassenaar.

Since 1989 he has been a professor of computer science at the University of Twente where he leads the Human Media Interaction (HMI) group. HMI conducts research in the field of Creative Technology and carries out a Masters degree in Human Media Interaction. HMI’s research is a major part of major European projects and European Networks of Excellence, such as emotions, social behavior and child interaction. In addition, there is participation in Dutch projects in the field of brain-computer interfaces, games and entertainment, and cultural heritage.
