Scheduling in Container Terminals:

Container Terminals are crucial links in the global supply chain. These facilities operate in a highly dynamic environment, where a number of logistic challenges come into play. A key challenge is Scheduling the container transport jobs, which are to be executed by the (automated) terminal equipment. These equipment are of different types and have different responsibilities, but their operations must be harmonized to efficiently and effectively fulfil the container handling operations at the Container Terminal. This talks addresses Scheduling in container terminals in terms of its role, span of control, responsibilities, and modelling aspects. In addition, the talk gives examples on how the nature of different equipment types poses different algorithmic challenges.
