Lunch Lecture – Mathematics

Riemannium by Jan van Neerven

Abstract: Many famous mathematicians have expressed their sense of wonder abouth the deep connections between mathematics and physics that came to light in the 20th century. In this talk I will discuss some philosophical aspects of the so-called problem of applicability of mathematics and illustrate it by describing an intriguing conjectural connection between the Riemann zeta-function and spectral properties of heavy elements.
