LunCH Lecture Computer Science: Safe Information Access for Children
In this lecture Sole Pera will tell more about what safe information access means for children in the digital world.
Search and recommender algorithms play a huge role in children’s digital experiences. These algorithms increasingly curate — and even generate — the content children are exposed to, despite rarely being designed with young users in mind.
In this LunCH Lecture, we’ll explore how search and recommender algorithms shape children’s information access, where things can go wrong, and what challenges researchers and product developers face in practice. We’ll discuss insights from current research, ongoing technical and societal challenges, and how policy can help steer the design and deployment of these algorithms toward safer information access, putting children’s wellbeing and rights first.
