Prof. dr. R. Timman (Reinier)
Born: May 6, 1917 in Den Helder
Died: November 9, 1975 in Delft
Professor of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Mechanics in the department of General Sciences.
In 1956 the Mathematics course was introduced at the TU Delft, mostly because of prof. Timman. He saw mathematics as a describing mechanism for all other disciplines. Prof. Timman has always, until his passing in 1975, been extremely committed to the Mathematics course and the study association Christiaan Huygens. For this reason he was chosen to be the Honourary Chairman of all the honourary members. Prof. Timman is also the father of the famous chess Grandmaster Jan Timman.
