Northpool is seeking a driven, proactive Junior Energy Analyst to join our Intraday team in Leiden. In this role, you’ll dive into the fundamental drivers of the European energy market, while developing and adapting high-performance solutions to keep pace with its ever-changing dynamics. You will analyze market data to enhance trading strategies and develop solutions that transform complex data into easily digestible formats for traders, such as dashboards, web tools, and other user-friendly applications. We expect you to have a proactive, “get-it-done” mindset and the ability to work independently. Success in this role depends on not just understanding the data but knowing how to leverage it for a competitive edge in the market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a Trader’s Mindset: Sit with traders regularly on trading shifts to gain firsthand knowledge of energy market fundamentals and understand their specific needs.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze real-time and historical market data, identifying trends and opportunities that give the team a competitive edge.
  • Collaboration and Team work: Be part of a multidisciplinary team that fosters learning, innovation, and growth in a collaborative environment.
  • Tool Development: Design, build, and deploy high-performance analytical tools that process real-time data. Your team is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving these tools.
  • Data Visualization: Create, manage and maintain complex dashboards using various technologies. You will learn to choose the right solution for different use cases and ensure the dashboards are tailored to the traders’ needs.
  • Automation: Streamlining and automating workflows where possible to ensure the smooth execution of tasks during the trading shift, allowing traders to focus fully on the market without distractions.
  • Adaptability & Learning: Keep pace with both technological advancements and shifting energy market demands.

What we ask

  • An analytical or quantitative degree at MSc level
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and learn new techniques
  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming language
  • A maximum of three years of work experience
  • An interest in trading or financial markets
  • Willingness to work in a shift-based role
  • Fluency in English

Location: for this vacancy we need you to live in The Netherlands. Also, the application procedure will take place at our office in Leiden.

To enhance collaboration in a dynamic trading environment you will partly be working at the trading desk, close to our traders. Therefore, we need you to work in the office 4 days a week.
