Fleet Performance Engineer

A great opportunity to join one of the world’s most renowned Gas Tanker operations, with a wealth of experience and insight into the sector. A challenging role, filled with opportunities, coupled with a flexible and progressive working environment. We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual to complement our team in Rotterdam. Would you like to match theory and practice in a challenging, international but still familiar environment? Are you ready to improve fleet performance by optimizing vessel operations and corresponding emissions of existing vessels, but also looking forward to the required improvements in the future?

This is an important role for an active, analytical & persistent individual who wants to develop innovative performance improvement solutions, vessel data handling & onboard best practices. Your core objective is to ensure that Unigas can make data-driven decisions which will improve overall vessel performance, process efficiency & results in emissions reduction for the Fleet.

As Fleet Performance Engineer, your primary areas of focus will be:
• Collection & verification of performance data. Our data is coming from different sources & programs that require active data management. The output contains a wide variety of valuable signals.

• Guiding and assisting colleagues at sea and ashore with performance related information provisioning so that they can make informed decisions throughout.

• Analyzing vessel & vessel class performance across the Unigas fleet. There are several areas of focus, being, for example, efficient power generation, reducing emissions through conscious fuel consumption and improving cargo plant operations.

• Delivering performance improvement projects from idea to embedded improvement. You are taking the lead from the R&D stage to deployment, training & maintenance across the field.

• Working closely with both in-house and external stakeholders to develop and implement solutions & tools in accordance with the (co-)created optimization roadmap.

• Assist other departments with data related inquiries; translating data into visuals & insights.

Towards the future, your responsibilities might also expand towards:

• Mapping current & future requirements of internal departments (Operational/Chartering/Technical) and the Unigas Pool Partners.

• Act as primary application specialist for performance programs, various databases & corresponding performance models within Unigas.

• Independently drive automation & systems integration projects.

• You hold a (Master’s) Degree in Marine/Mechanical engineering, Data Science, Naval architecture or similar.

• Preferably a track record / experience in (commercial) shipping, performance analysis and/or data management.

• Experience with data handling systems, database management & some coding would be great. Expert knowledge of Excel (incl.VBA) is required, and PowerBI and/or Python would be a great bonus.

• Interest in commercial (gas) shipping and decarbonization is a bonus.

Your Profile:
• You are analytically strong, accurate under pressure and like to solve complex problems.

• You easily adapt to your audience and like to work with teams from different backgrounds & disciplines.

• Excellent communication skills, in both oral and written English (Dutch is a plus).

• “Hands-on” and strong appetite to work in a fast-pace environment. You live by the ‘can do’ mentality and aim to positively surprise your audience by going above and beyond the expected.

• You have affinity with sustainability and/or optimization, where you find your way between details and the bigger commercial picture.

• You know when to apply a quick fix and when to dive into detailed solutions.

• Independent and decisive, as well as being a strong team player.

• Self-motivated, responsible and professional.
